Regensburg’s cobbled streets, colourful façades and step gables constitute Germany’s best-preserved medieval centre. A 12th-century stone bridge crosses the Danube River between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town and islands forming the Stadtamhof district.
Regensburg was an important trading centre and its wealthy merchants built tall towers, such as the Goldener Turm, to outdo each other. The dual spires of its Gothic cathedral tower over red roofs sheltering pavement cafes, traditional bierkellers and modern bars.
Niedermünster abbey also has square towers, while the Alte Kapelle’s most impressive feature is intricate gold interior detailing. Nearby Neupfarrplatz houses the annual Christmas markets, while the old town hall is on Kohlenmarkt. Just down the street a large David and Goliath mural adorns a house.
A plaque outside a more modest house marks Oskar Schindler’s former home. Much grander is Schloss Thurn and Taxis, an 8th-century monastery converted to a noble residence. At the eastern end of a park encircling the historic centre is a villa built for King Maximilian II of Bavaria, overlooking riverboats which cruise past a more outlandish royal creation – Donaustauf’s Walhalla monument, resembling a Greek temple.
Booking.com offers a great range of Regensburg accommodation including 4-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses near the train station.
The city had a lot to offer tourists. Loved the buildings and streets. The Old Town Bridge offer easy pedestrian passage over the river affording more places to discover.
My major disappointment and a big one was that No One in Regensberg knew about the marathon which shut down all the roads from the train station to the river. I was very angry and now hate sports more than ever. The hotel staff tried to get us transportation to no avail. My husband and I had to walk from the hotel with all our luggage to the ship.

We loved Regensburg.
We loved Regensburg. It is a beautiful, quite city with friendly people, great food, and reasonable amount of traffic. Our visit was very plesant. Nothing went wrong. Dining in the restaurant and shopping in the supermarket are both quite cheap.

I travelled to Regensburg every month for 15 years working and never tired of the city. We still visit every December to meet old friends and enjoy the Christmas ambience.
Plenty of traditional Bavarian restaurants - my favourites being Hacker Pschorr and Dicker Mann - but lots of modern places as well
A beautiful old city centre - exactly how you would envisage a traditional Bavarian city. Not to be missed

Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town.
Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town. The entire old town is easily walkable and there are so many ancient homes/buildings to see. Get a local guide so you don’t walk right past something incredible without realizing.

We only stayed one night because we were meeting our river...
We only stayed one night because we were meeting our river cruise there. We also spent the next day in Regensburg on a walking tour. It is a beautiful city. The hotel was fantastic, and we wish we could have stayed longer!
We stayed in many very good apartments on our travels throughout Germany over the last month but this apartment was the standout. It feels new, is quiet, comfortable, well equipped and exceptionally well located, being a stone's throw from restaurants, cafes, a beautiful riverside walk and a short walk over the bridge to the old town. Our hosts were also very professional and responsive in handling our booking and arrangements for payment and refund of the security deposit.
Great location, surrounded by history, easy walk to see so much. Wonderful dinner and breakfast, terrific courtyard for relaxing and enjoying a drink or food with a wonderful atmosphere. Staff were attentive and very welcoming.
I highly recommend this hotel
Fantastic location on an island in the Danube itself, immediately adjacent to a bridge that connects to the old town. Large hotel with on-site parking and other amenities that we didn't have the time to utilize but the bar looked nice.
Check in staff very friendly. The hotel is clean and offers you a comfortable stay. The restaurant is nice and serves good food. All in all good value for money. Can recommend this hotel. 10 min. walk from old town.
This is a very nice place, centrally located but across the bridge from the main part of old town. Our room was large, attractive, and very quiet. They have secure parking for bicycles. Breakfast was excellent.
We went just for an overnight stay during our long trip through Germany.
Everything was just as you (tired traveller) would need it to be: welcoming smile, clean, quiet room, hassle free check-in and out.
Very friendly and very professional staff. The hotel is ideally situated, with easy access from the highway and at walking distance from the old town. Comfortable beds and quiet rooms.
It is exactly what it says it is: the budget version of the usual Ibis hotels. Friendly staff, very close to the motorway, easy check-in and check-out. Excellent option for a short stay.
Centrally located in the mid of the pedestrian zone of the old town.
Very detailed description how to reach the hotel and to save parking costs.
Very helpful and friendly staff
The hotel is in the heart of the old town and is charming and fabulously run. We have stayed twice and both times wished we stayed longer in this beautiful city.
Modern, comfortable hotel, it is one of the better ibis hotels I've stayed at. Staff were professional and helpful. Underground parking lot made travel easy.
