The location was phenomenal and the hotel had a private parking lot nearby which made it perfect! We loved the style of the hotel. The room was large and had plenty of space to relax and have our luggage open without feeling cramped. The bathroom was also a great size with room for all our toiletries. There was a wonderful breakfast with plenty of offerings, including eggs, meats, cereals, fruits, and of course, many different types of breads. We loved the hotel and the town. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

Enormous historic property just brimming with character and gathering spaces. The staff was uniformly helpful and kind. Breakfast was incredible, tons of options and group seating in an elegant dining room. There are art installation and Lutheran pamphlets scattered about (the chapel and such are not accessible). Also a music festival was happening during our stay (we sometimes heard them and there was interesting lighting but was not loud at night). Close to the town by the stairs or with a car. Enjoyed the gardens and exploring the public spaces of the old building. Great atmosphere for telling ghost stories. Overall it was wonderful!

The half-timbered buildings, cobbled streets and brightly painted façades of medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber wouldn’t be out of place in a fairytale. Several fantastical films have been set in this gem on the scenic Romantic Road, passing from Würzburg to Füssen via Bavaria’s most enchanting towns.
Uniquely designed gates allow access to the historic centre through walls partly covered with tiled roofs. Walking along the walls offers a different perspective of the town’s colourful flowers, step gables and towers. The town hall has the tallest tower, whose far-reaching views include the large Marktplatz, home of the Christmas market. The Christmas Museum is a year-round winter wonderland, as is the shop of Käthe Wohlfahrt, the internationally renowned German Christmas decoration producer.
On a different note, the Crime Museum houses medieval torture instruments including a ducking stool. Holy Blood and Last Supper altarpieces form the focal point of towering St James’ Church, a stop on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route.
In the River Tauber valley outside the centre are lush gardens, one containing Toppler Castle, a bizarre structure resembling a house on a tower. Also in the valley is a double-arched stone bridge.
The Rothenburg ob der Tauber accommodation on Booking.com includes traditional guest houses and family hotels with a spa and parking.

Beautiful town and we were very happy we included it on our tour. Walking the wall was a great experience but you really don't have to walk the whole thing. We were there in the shoulder season, March, and pretty much nothing opened, shops & museums, until 2pm when the tour busses arrived. We specifically stayed overnight because of advice to be there without "hordes" of tourists and to see the town lit up. Problem was that there isn't any exterior lighting and we had the town pretty much to ourselves all morning. When the tour busses leave it turns into a ghost town. Shops close, which are all cheap tourist shops and not interesting anyway. Also, we had an extremely difficult time finding a place for dinner. There aren't many restaurants and because of that reservations are required. Happy we saw the town but spending six hours would have been enough.

Old town is the place to be.
Old town is the place to be. Beautiful architecture, history and it really feels like you are in Pinocchio’s fairytale village. Worth visiting and you don’t need more than 2-3 nights to fully explore it. And you can walk everywhere.

We stayed three nights and spent 2-1/2 days in the old town.
We stayed three nights and spent 2-1/2 days in the old town. We’ve been here many times but there’s plenty to see and do. We recommend the Rothenberger Handworker’s house tour, an ancient house unchanged since the 1700s, St Jakob’s church, the criminal museum, the night watchman’s tour, and walking the town’s perimeter walls and towers. These help illustrate medieval life and how people lived back then, and how good we have it today!

This is a stunning walled medieval town!
This is a stunning walled medieval town! You can walk around most of the wall - stork nests can be seen if you look carefully! Every street is beautiful with gift shops and cafes. The castle gardens are great to relax in and at the bottom you are rewarded with an amazing view down to the river Tauber.

Its indeed a Fairytale town (fortified).
Its indeed a Fairytale town (fortified).
One night stay would be perfect to enjoy the old town´s colorful buildings and architecture with many towers standing high at every corner of the old town guarded by city walls (Day view and Night view of the old is must).
It has a very rich heritage to tell as you stroll through the old town wondering why this was built and the purpose. This curiosity was sated by the night watchman´s 1hr guided tour that starts in Market square.
The city wall is one of amazing structure which I had never seen before that runs through out the town like a fortress hiding behind is the beautiful buildings from medieval age still preserved with many reconstructed.
There are many places to visit and for me the Rothenburg museum was the best to know about the history, going back in time (approx. 700 yrs).
Plenty of restaurants and food was pretty good too, best snack "Schnee ball"
I wish I would visit this town again on a full moon night :-)

My family loves to visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
My family loves to visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The town is very walkable and there are plenty of places to explore for a few days. Check out the museum's and take your time walking through the park outside the walls. If staying overnight take a trip with the nightwatchman. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is beautiful in Autumn and magical at Christmas.

Really comfortable room (bed, space, bathroom) and superb experience overall. Staff was attentive, helpful and sympathetic. Location can barely be any better as this is in the heart of altstadt.
The hotel restaurant is incredible! I enjoyed the most delicious schäufelle in Germany there. I also definitely recommend the local sparkling wine. The apfel strudel was a work of art. Nice and polite staff there as well.
The breakfast was good. Not hugely varietied but with all the basics for all tastes, with tasty local products as well.
This was a wonderful hotel in a very central area of Rothenburg. Upon reading reviews, I understood that there were two room possibilities so I wasn’t surprised when we got the annex which is right next door. The room was beautifully renovated with a modern bathroom. I was not expecting that! It was a quiet location at night. Breakfast the next morning was really good as well. I felt the price was very reasonable based on the location. We really enjoyed our stay!
Staff were very friendly, but under staffed if your expecting a hotel experience, which the cost of a hotel room up the street was basically the same price as our room, which we reserved on Booking.com, but it was not what we received. We had to find another hotel but still were charged the full price. Breakfast served the equivalent of Tang for juice, weak coffee, but the plums and pears were delicious.
The location is excellent as it is within the old town.
The customer service is excellent.
The room size is just right for family.
There are ample if parking lots and best thing is all free!
The breakfast is awesome! The spread is good and food taste is above the mark. My family truly enjoy it and probably the best hotel breakfast throughout our trip!
Good value for money especially considering the location. Note that this hotel has the basic amenities and not much more. If it is for a night or two, it is perfect for staying in Rothenburg considering the cost of other hotels in the city. And it has free parking and the owner is okay with parking the car after check out to explore the city for the day.
The location was quite remote for walking around, but closeby to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The hotel has a long tradition which can be seen in the breakfast room. Our room was in a separate building and was very spacious. Breakfast was nice and is highly recommended. The cancellation policy (which we didn't use) is one of the best I have seen.
The location is idyllic situated perfectly in the old town in a picturesque spot. From start to finish we had wonderful service from the family owners which made this hotel in our week long stay in Germany our favorite. Each room is unique and we loved our deluxe room with private patio. Breakfast and service is also phenomenal.
This was by far the best hotel we stayed at on our 10 day trip. The location was exceptional. The staff were exceptional. The room was exceptional. We had dinner in the attached restaurant and both the food and service were exceptional. Breakfast was also exceptional. Great off-street parking.
Very easy street parking for $12/day, or adjacent Burg Hotel private garage parking for $10/day. Amazing hospitality. Best view ever from top floor and from breakfast!!!!!! Astounding place. The rooms were very large because we booked well in advance.
This hotel staff is so nice and helpful. The rooms are adorable, spacious and it has the sparkling clean bathroom I’ve ever seen. The tub was wonderful. Everything was absolutely perfect, including the location. I would stay here again!
Best place to halt when in Rothenburg o d T. The owner is sweet and helpful. Rooms are super clean and the hotel serves breakfast (for 10€ pp). Breakfast is worth that money I would say. The location is perfect ( 10 - 12 mins) to Markplatz.
This was such a perfect overnight stay. The host was lovely and accomodating, the location was perfect, bed was very comfortable and the restaurant downstairs was the best meals we have had in Germany. Would absolutely stay again!
An excellent hotel located inside Rotenburg’s city walls. You will feel like if you were travelling through Rotenburg using the roman trade routes, while staying in a 5 star hotel.
PS: breakfast is fantastic!
Everything. The hotel accommodations were lovely - nicely decorated, clean and the staff is so friendly 🙂 great location! We will return to Hotel Sonne when we come back to Rothenburg ob der Tauber!
